What is Biohacking?
Biohacking is a subfield of biotechnology. Biotech uses technology to innovate biological sciences. Biohacking refers to a Do It Yourself, self-help, professional development, personal growth, approach to modifying and augmenting basic biology. For those of you that are science fiction fans no this does not mean putting computer chips in our brains, it can be done in far simpler means.
Common applications of biohacking are the taking of supplements to improve performance at the gym, or increase attention span and cognition.
Unfortunately, a lot of biohacking techniques are pseudoscience at best. Parsing out actual science and false claims is important. For those of you that are coming from the world of self help this is probably a common obstacle to run into. This site and the blog will strive to debunk pseudoscience claims and provide evidence for the points being made.

Biohacking is the process of improving your body by using science and sometimes pseudoscience means. Biohacking tends to be considered nested under the field of biotechnology but crosses other disciplines like psychology, neuroscience, chemistry, physiology, and others.
Augmenting your diet so that you get optimal protein to promote muscle growth is one example. Another example is the implementation of SMART goals to increase your motivation and productivity for goal attainment. These are only two examples of the thousands of possibilities.
It depends. Taking time to research topics and consult with professionals is necessary before making any changes to your body or routine. There are biohacking concepts rooted in science and evidence based. Be cautious, there are many pseudoscientific techniques touted by gurus and false prophets with no scientific backing.
Examples of self help include but are not limited to exercising, balanced diets, sleep routines, strong social networks, and much more.
Self help is any action or behavior that is geared toward improving one’s overall well being and satisfaction.
Fixating on aspects of one’s life that are not satisfactory to an obsessive degree is unhealthy and can cause maladaptive thought processes. Rather focusing on what is positive in your life and accept your imperfections or weaknesses.
